ZEROFOOTPRINT’S FIRST ANNUAL FEATURED CHARITY: The Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED)
Toronto, ON February 6, 2006 – Zerofootprint is pleased to announce its first annual featured charity, The Campaign for Female Education. CAMFED works in rural communities in Africa and is dedicated to fighting poverty and AIDS by educating girls.
Working in areas where females have least access to education and are most vulnerable to HIV/AIDS, CAMFED’s mission is to multiply girls’ access to education and accelerate the benefits to individuals, their families and communities. Beginning in 1993, CAMFED was supporting 32 girls in rural Zimbabwe, and by 2004 this number had grown to more than 71,000 children in some of the poorest regions of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana and Tanzania. These young women – among them doctors, lawyers, teachers and businesswomen – are now sharing the benefits of their education with their communities.
The organization was named International Aid & Development Charity of the Year in 2003 and was awarded a prestigious Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2005.
Zerofootprint will contribute to CAMFED’s growing success by making a financial contribution and by promoting the organization through our own activities. Leveraging Zerofootprint’s strength at linking people worldwide engaged in sustainability, we have access to a captive audience of caring individuals who want to make a difference. By reaching out to our network, we can help promote CAMFED’s mission.
