The Toronto Zoo is aiming to launch an ambitious $250 million fundraising campaign with a green mandate, which will include an educational centre focusing on biodiversity and sustainability issues.

Environmentalists believe that humans must help plants and animals adapt to climate change. “Conservation efforts should focus on protecting a variety of the most resilient or adaptable communities, and providing protected corridors of land or sea to allow species to shift habitats if their old range becomes unliveable, they said.”

According to a survey conducted by the Co-op grocery business, only 4% of UK consumers surveyed ranked climate change as their top ethical priority. At the top of the list for shoppers are animal welfare (21%) and fair trade (14%).
