A new census data shows that commuters in the Toronto-area are opting not to drive alone, but choosing alternative options including carpooling, public transit, walking and biking.
Stats from Statistics Canada show that younger Canadians are more willing to use sustainable transportation compare to their older colleagues. More than 60% of those who cycle, walk or take public transit are between the ages of 15 and 34.
Experts gathered at the Walk21 conference to discuss options for more pedestrian-friendly cities and suburbs. David Miller also signed the International Charter for Walking, “making Toronto the 26th city in the world to sign on. But it takes more than talk to produce people-friendly streets, warned experts” at the conference.
